Experience
Although I speak English fluently, I also speak three other languages: Spanish (fluent), French (fluent) and Italian (conversational). As such, I am sensitive to a second language student’s needs and concerns. I believe that second language learners must build confidence in their ability to learn. They must get to a point where they aren’t afraid to make mistakes but are ready and willing to correct them. In my class, I make sure that that they are okay with “I can try again.” With this in mind, I motivate my students to keep trying until they “get it” and keep “getting it” until they master it. I taught English for two years in Korea and am currently pursuing an ESL teaching license here in the United States. As an ESL teacher, I enjoy the challenges and satisfaction that go with a student’s progress. In addition, I have experience tutoring adults and leading discussion groups. These experiences greatly improved my ability to teach effectively. I look forward to working with you.
