Experience

***I still have availability for high school finals, summer sessions, and September ACT/October SAT prep.*** ***My company is also still accepting students applying to college or graduate school seeking help with the application process. Space is limited since we only take on a limited number of these clients at any one time*** My name is Aalok and I am a full time professional tutor. I can help students who are struggling, students who are looking to excel, and everyone else in between. I offer no-cost consultations (up to 30 minutes) to all students over the phone or online. Free consultations in person may only be available in Toms River or Morganville (as my schedule allows). Results matter. Honestly, why else would you be looking for a tutor unless you are looking to get a better grade or a higher test score? My serious students (who put in sincere time and effort) see very significant improvements in grades and scores. "We should have started with you." There is nothing wrong with looking for an affordable tutor, but bargain hunting when a quiz, test, or final is right around the corner isn't the best idea. Many times, students won't be able to bounce back from low grades or scores if they don't get effective help from the beginning. I won't go so far as to say I make tutoring fun, but I make sure it's engaging, relatable, and meaningful. Tutoring isn't just memorization and repetitive practice drills; that's passive and doesn't work. I've even worked with other tutors and educators to hone their skills and improve their problem-solving styles. I have over six years of experience working as a full time professional tutor - with large test prep companies, local test prep companies, and independently. I have taught/tutored over 1400 students. I've taught over 600 students in a classroom setting (in person) and well over 800 students online (through virtual class rooms). I've individually tutored well over 300 students (in person and online). I am experienced in academic/test prep tutoring from grade school through college. I have a very diverse educational background. My Behavioral Neuroscience degree consists of coursework in Biology, Chem, Organic Chem, Physics, English, Psychology, Calculus, and Bio-Statistics and I also took courses in Japanese Culture, History, Chinese Religion, Philosophy, and Theater. I also have experience working with students that have ADHD, dyslexia, students with IEP's, and other documented learning disabilities. I do not have formal training in specialized education, but rather successful experience. While other tutors may shy away from students who they think might be challenging to teach, I embrace these opportunities. My experience in tutoring for so many subjects and exams has given me insight that lets me to simplifying even the most complex material. That's why I believe myself to be such an effective teacher/tutor. So whether it's SAT Math or ACT English or GMAT Argument Analysis or GRE Verbal or MCAT Physics or college level chemistry - I break the material down into simpler concepts. Experience also allows me to be flexible. Did your algebra teacher push the test back and you'd rather review solubility rules and titration from today's chemistry lab? No worries. Did you suddenly remember halfway through a physics problem that you also have a pre-calc quiz tomorrow and want to spend the rest of our session reviewing for that? You got it. Standardized Tests: NJ-ASK, SSAT, PSAT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, AP courses/exams, IB courses/exams, GED, GRE, Praxis, etc. If you don't see your test listed here - just ask! Academic Subjects: Algebra 1/2, Trig, Geometry, Pre-Calc, Stats, Earth Science, Biology, Chem, Physics, English, Literature, History, Social Studies, Computer Software, etc. If you don't see your subject here - just ask! Some Student Successes: 350+ points score improvement on the SAT, several 800s on the SAT and SAT subject tests, 20+ points score improvement on the GRE, 8+ points improvement on the MCAT, 30 point improvement on the Math Praxis, 34+ on the ACT (with 36's in Science, Math, and Reading), and 5's an various AP exams. While I cannot guarantee scores like the ones above, I do promise my very best to help you get your highest score possible! I reside in Toms River, have an office in Morganville, or can meet with clients at their homes, a library, or at a cafe. As my schedule allows, I can tutor students beyond 30 minutes of travel for a higher hourly rate. I also tutor extensively online and have worked with students in Maryland, Texas, Russia, London, and India. My cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance due to high demand (You must let me know by 6pm Thursday if you wish to cancel or change a lesson taking place on the weekend). It is best to get in touch with me as early as possible so we have time to coordinate our schedules. I can try to accommodate last minute requests, but cannot guarantee them. Weather policy: In the event of inclement weather, I will make every reasonable effort to keep my commitments and keep on schedule. I'll notify you in advance if we need to make any changes. I just ask the same in return; please do not wait until the very last second to make a decision when it comes to weather- related changes. Travel Policy: Minimum session length or travel charge apply for travel that exceeds 30 minutes; this would be discussed prior to our initial lesson. Education is an investment. The cost of (effective) tutoring will very likely pay for itself many times over. Even just an increase of 100 points on the SAT, 5 points on the ACT, or a 0.2 increase in GPA can significantly increase merit scholarship awards and dramatically raise a student's chances of being accepted to a better school. This has a direct impact on future earning potential, as much as tens of thousands of dollars per year. Unfortunately, far too many parents and students find this out once it's too late. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I'm more than happy to speak with you. "I wish I had called you sooner." Each day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test score that will only make it harder to recover from.
